How has Trinity modified its winter holiday break for 2023?
The campus will close and all employees will receive an early, paid release starting at noon on December 22. Employees already receive December 25 as a holiday, as well as the entire week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. The University will be closed effective December 22 at noon, and will resume normal operations January 2 at 8 a.m.
What if I am considered essential and must work the afternoon of December 22?
Your supervisor may approve you to take a different four-hour block off with pay within the same work week (i.e., a weekend day, if you are scheduled then). If that is not possible, you will be paid double time if you must work after noon on December 22. Payroll and your supervisor will provide instructions on how to enter your hours so that hours worked and holiday hours are correctly reflected.
What if I have announced my resignation? Do I still get this time off?
According to the employee handbook, “an employee who resigns or is terminated prior to or on a holiday shall not receive compensation for the holiday hours.” To be eligible for paid time on the afternoon of December 22, an employee must have been scheduled for and available to work those hours and must return for at least one (1) work day after the holiday (January 2 or after).
What if I already took any combination of December 20, 21, and 22 as vacation?
The time (four hours for December 22) will be considered a holiday and you will not be charged with vacation leave. Please adjust your leave in Workday for these four hours on December 22.
Can I take this as flex time and work December 20-22 and take vacation at another time?
No. This is considered a holiday and not vacation time. Our desire is to give employees and their families additional time to relax and recharge over the holidays.
